About Tata Memorial Center in India


The Tata Memorial Hospital is situated in Parel, Mumbai in India. It is a specialist cancer treatment and research centre, closely associated with the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC). In 1957 the Ministry of Health took over the Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai. The transfer of the administrative control of the Tata Cancer hospital (Tata Memorial Hospital & Cancer Research Institute) to the Department of Atomic Energy in 1962 was the next major milestone. Starting as an 80-bed hospital covering an area of 15,000 square metres, Tata memorial hospital mumbai now has more than 600 beds spread over almost 70,000 square metres. The annual budget of Rs5 lakh in 1941 is now close to Rs120 crore. It is a landmark on the global health map and particularly important to this part of the world. Nearly 25,000 patients visit the clinics each year, not only from all over India but from all over the world as well.

He obtained the MBBS and MD Medicine degrees from Grant Medical College, Mumbai and then served as Medical Oncologist at Tata Memorial Hospital for many years, as during late 90’s Tata hospital Mumbai used to have Oncology branch but nobody was aware of the treatment & procedure.

He has always been the man of willpower, diagnosed with poliomyelitis at an early age, Dr. Suresh Advani had never let this come in the way of his medical journey. He is currently working as Consultant at the Department of Medical Oncology in Fortis Hospital, Dr. Boman Nariman Dhabhar has over 23 years of experience in his field. He has received his initial training in tata hospital Mumbai. After completing his MBBS, he went on to pursue MD-Internal Medicine from Mumbai University and then underwent Super specialization training in Medical Oncology and Hema-Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai. He also completed his Certification and Fellowship in Medical Oncology from European Society of Medical Oncology, The University Of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, U.S.A. and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Washington, U.S.A.
